BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Monday morning after being found with a loaded 9mm handgun tucked inside his waistband at East Brooklyn High School on Kings Highway near East 96th Street in Flatbush, authorities said.
How the Gun Was Discovered
The firearm was spotted by another student, who immediately alerted teachers. School staff then called 911, leading to the swift recovery of the weapon and the teen being taken into custody at the scene. Charges are pending.

The school does not have metal detectors, but it is staffed by two school safety agents, sources confirmed.
Authorities noted that this incident comes weeks after another student, aged 16, was arrested with a loaded semiautomatic handgun at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Queens. In that case, the teen had posted a disturbing threat on Instagram to “shoot the school up,” which was flagged by social media moderators.
