Crockett, CA – A 16-year-old boy tragically died early Saturday morning after falling from an overpass while watching an illegal sideshow in Contra Costa County.

Incident Details

The accident occurred around 3:25 a.m. near the intersection of Pomona Street and Merchant Street, close to Interstate 80. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), more than 100 vehicles were blocking the roads during the takeover.

Fall From Overpass

Witnesses told authorities that the teenager climbed over a concrete barrier on the Pomona Street on-ramp to I-80. He then accidentally fell approximately 75 feet to the ground below, as per KTVU.

Victim Found Dead at the Scene

Deputies from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office and CHP officers located the 16-year-old victim under the overpass. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released at this time.

Ongoing Investigation

The CHP Contra Costa Area Office in Martinez is continuing to investigate the teen’s death. Authorities are urging anyone with information to call 925-646-4980 or email.
