Kansas City, MO — A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot and a girl under 16 was injured early Sunday in a parking lot shooting in south Kansas City, according to police.
Victim Identified as Teandre Gibson
Police later identified the deceased boy as Teandre Gibson. Officers responded shortly after 12:15 a.m. to the 1700 block of East 97th Street in the Linden Hills and Indian Heights neighborhoods.
“A bystander waved down police and told them that several people were involved in an altercation that led to gunfire in a nearby parking lot,” said Officer Alayna Gonzalez of the Kansas City Police Department.
Details of the Shooting
According to The Kansas City Star, those involved in the altercation fled before officers arrived. As police investigated, a hospital notified them that Teandre and the girl had been taken there. Teandre later died from his injuries, while the girl sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. No suspects have been identified, and police have not taken anyone into custody. Preliminary details on the motive or cause of the shooting remain unclear.
