SAN PEDRO, Calif. – Authorities announced a major operation on Tuesday, October 7, resulting in the arrests of 13 alleged leaders and members of the Rancho San Pedro gang, described as “one of the most active and violent street gangs in the Los Angeles area.”

The FBI, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations conducted raids at 17 locations, mostly in San Pedro, with one in Carson. The operation targeted the gang’s shot-callers and leaders after a multi-year investigation revealed their roles in drug trafficking, extortion, and violent acts.

Gang Structure and Criminal Activity
The Rancho San Pedro gang, estimated to have 500 members, operates in six subsets, including two female cliques, and claims San Pedro as its territory. Originating in the 1970s, the gang operates under the control of incarcerated Mexican Mafia members. Members pay the Mexican Mafia for protection while engaging in:
- Drug distribution
- Extortion and robbery
- Illegal firearms possession
- Acts of violence, including conspiracies to commit murder and assault
Some members were also directing operations from prison, including collecting “taxes”, ordering firearms transfers, and making decisions about gang leadership positions.
Law Enforcement Statements
FBI Assistant Special Agent Sean Haworth stated:
“Today’s operation will no doubt cripple the gang’s activity and makes the streets of San Pedro safer.”
LAPD Harbor Division Captain Brent McGuyre added:
“I hope this takedown sends a clear message to young people considering gang involvement. We are prepared to prevent any further violence and ensure the safety of our community.”
Officials noted that most federal defendants could face up to life in prison if convicted.
Community Impact
The crackdown follows multiple sweeps in San Pedro and the Harbor Area since 2011, targeting gang operations and violent crime. Authorities say additional resources will remain in the community to deter further gang activity and protect residents.
