Memphis, TN – The West Tennessee Drug Task Force announced two major drug busts near the Memphis International Airport, leading to large seizures of meth, cocaine, and prescription pills.
The First Bust: 118 Pounds of Meth
Agents with the 30th Judicial District out of Memphis seized 118 pounds of methamphetamine in the 38131 zip code, near Airways Boulevard and Democrat Road.
The operation was backed by the Governor’s Violent Crime Intervention Funding Zip Code Grant, which supports efforts to fight crime in Tennessee’s 10 most violent zip codes.
Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy confirmed his office will prosecute the case, saying:
“Meth is a killer, and amounts of that size mean significant drug trafficking. Thanks to the DTF staff for disrupting it.”
The Second Bust: Cocaine and Prescription Pills
On Friday morning, task force agents conducted another interdiction operation, seizing:
- 2.5 pounds of cocaine
- 5 bottles of OxyContin (507 pills total)
- 1 bottle of Alprazolam (Xanax) (398 pills)
Authorities Report Larger Drug Seizures in 2025
According to the reports, the Drug Task Force Director Johnie Carter stated that agents have been seeing larger-than-average drug seizures across 2025, highlighting the ongoing battle against narcotics trafficking in the region.
