A problem with the recent software upgrade at the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles and a backlog of cases has led to police stopping motorists for driving unregistered vehicles when in fact the insurance and registration are current. To help those wrongly suspended and fined, the department is issuing refunds for DMV fines, tickets and towing fees.
Having insurance for your vehicle is mandatory if you want to be able to drive legally around the country as if you don’t have any you could be forced to pay a fine or you may have to have points added to your license. For drivers with bad records, it can be difficult to find an insurance company that can cover you. By taking a look at these thegeneral.com reviews, you can learn what to do if you are in this situation. It is important that all drivers have the relevant coverage needed to drive legally and to not face any fines.
According to DMV’s website, any customer who had continuous insurance coverage on their vehicle and incurred incorrect fines or fees may be entitled to a refund, if you experienced both of these situations:
• The fee or fine was incurred from August 18, 2015 to January 9, 2016;
• The fee or fine was the result of DMV error.
The fees and fines eligible for refund are:
• DMV-imposed $200.00 insurance compliance fine.
• Infraction ticket and/or towing-related fees.
