Winter Storm Warning Remains in Effect Until 4 a.m. EST Thursday; Snow Accumulations of 10-16 Inches Expected

The National Weather Service forecasts snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour expected into this evening, until 4am EST. Heavy snow, for Northern Fairfield and Northern New Haven Counties.  Total snow accumulations of 10 to 16 inches are expected.

Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times.

Bands of heavy snow will continue late this evening before tapering off in coverage and intensity. Any heavier snow will fall at the rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour locally, with
visibility less than one quarter mile. Near blizzard conditions are possible as winds gust to 30 to 35 mph, with considerable blowing and drifting of snow. Nonessential travel is discouraged. Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Be prepared for additional power outages and closed roads due to heavy snow weighing down trees or limbs.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions.
