Sen. Murphy to Hold Press Conference on Pending Lawsuit That Threatens People with Pre-Existing Conditions

**Monday, June 18th at 11am**

HARTFORD – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn) will hold a press conference following the recent decision by the Trump administration to attack the constitutionality of consumer protections for the more 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions. Before the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies were given free rein to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions, like cancer survivors and even women, by charging them more for their health insurance or refusing to offer them coverage altogether. Murphy, a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, will stand with patients and practitioners to call for protections for people with pre-existing conditions and lower health care costs. The state of Connecticut, along with other states, has intervened in the Texas v. United States lawsuit to defend the Affordable Care Act.

WHO: Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Jonathan Miller, cystic fibrosis patient

Nancy Burton, nurse midwife with 40 years of experience & professor at the Yale School of Nursing

Roger Levesque, family caregiver of a cancer victim

WHEN: Monday, June 18th at 11am

WHERE: Legislative Office Building, Room 1D, 300 Capitol Ave., Hartford, CT
