Special Elections to be Held in Bethel, Bridgeport, Brookfield, Danbury & Stratford

After 16 years in the Legislature, representing Brookfield and parts of Bethel and Danbury, CT State Representative David Scribner has accepted the position as one of three members of the Liquor Control Commission. Scribner resigned from the 107th District seat on Tuesday by sending his letter of resignation to Secretary of the State Denise Merrill. Scribner accepted the position offered to him just days earlier by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

Gov. Malloy: Special Elections for Three General Assembly Seats to Be Held Feb 24

Special Elections to be Held in Bethel, Bridgeport, Brookfield, Danbury & Stratford

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that special elections to fill three vacancies in the Connecticut General Assembly will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.  The elections will be for the 23rd Senatorial District, which covers portions of Bridgeport and Stratford; the 107th Assembly District, which covers all of Brookfield, and portions of Bethel and Danbury; and the 129th Assembly District, which covers a portion of Bridgeport.
 
The Senate seat was most recently held by Andres Ayala, and the House seats were most recently held by Auden Grogins and David Scribner.  While all three legislators won their most recent elections to serve during the 2015 legislative session, they chose not to be sworn into office this week and vacancies were declared.
 
Under state law, the Governor is required to issue a Writ of Special Election within ten days of a vacancy in the General Assembly, and a special election must be held 46 days after it is issued.  Governor Malloy is filing the writs today.
