BETHEL, CT – Today, Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Dan Carter commented on clinching the Republican nomination and avoiding an August Primary to take on U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal:

“Avoiding a contentious and expensive primary is paramount to winning in November,” said Carter. “I applaud Augie for raising his hand to serve our state and am grateful for his offer to help me win in November.”

“Unfortunately, the events of the last week have shown why so many are fed up with Washington politics,” Carter said. “All eyes are on Senator Blumenthal, who after forty years in public service, you’d think would understand that at times like these you must put your own political agenda aside in order to find solutions.”

“Instead, Senator Blumenthal and his colleagues have turned a terrorist attack into a fundraising pitch and political opportunity,” Carter added. “We’re not hearing tough questions or new ideas about how to stop terrorists from killing innocent Americans. We’re hearing the same-old, political agenda that has gridlocked Washington for far too long.”

“Yesterday, the Department of Justice couldn’t decide whether to share with the public critical information that illustrates the motives of a terrorist and Senator Blumenthal stood and cheered as Senator Murphy accused Republicans of selling weapons to terrorists,” Carter said. “We must do better than this if we are going to address the ongoing threats our country faces every day. The American people demand it.”

“While Americans struggle to find answers, Senator Blumenthal is cashing in on another national tragedy,” Carter said. “I’m taking on this fight because Connecticut deserves better.”
