NWS Weather Forecast for Bethel: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Possible Into Weekend and Beyond, But Minimal Flooding for Our Area

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts rain and possibly a thunderstorm for today and tonight before 3:00 a.m. then more rain likely.  Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Steady temperature around 52. East wind 15 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.  Patchy fog. Temperature rising to around 59 by 10pm. Southeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Fairfield County in southern Connecticut...
  Central Westchester County in southeastern New York...

* Until 500 PM EDT

* At 157 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated rain and embedded
  thunderstorms producing heavy rain moving into the warned area. 2
  to 3 inches of rain has fallen just west of the area. Excessive
  runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas,
  highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas
  and low lying spots.Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms
  producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is
  expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, Milford, Shelton, New Canaan,
  Newtown, Fairfield, Greenwich, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport,
  Ridgefield, Darien and Monroe.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.
