“Confusion reigned in the wake of the deadly bombing Saturday of a hospital compound in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz that killed at least 19 people and wounded dozens more. It remains unclear exactly who bombed the hospital run by Doctors Without Borders and the international medical charity has demanded an investigation into the incident. Doctors Without Borders said that “all indications” pointed to the international military coalition as responsible for the bombing and called for an independent investigation.” reports the Washington Post.

Nine Staff Workers Killed in ‘Doctors Without Borders’ Hospital Airstrike in Afghanistan, Dozens Missing
October 3, 2015 – Kabul, Afghanistan- In the Afghan city of Kunduz nine medical staff workers of Doctors Without Borders were killed Saturday by aerial bombings and 30 are missing, the medical charity reported.
U.S. forces said they conducted airstrikes in the area which may have been connected to the aerial bombings. The international charity said in a statement, the ““sustained bombing” occurred at 2:10 a.m. Saturday.
“Afghan forces backed by U.S. airstrikes have been fighting to dislodge Taliban insurgents who overran Kunduz on Monday,” The NY Daily News reports. They state, “U.S. forces in Afghanistan said they conducted an airstrike on Kunduz at 2:15 a.m. A spokesman, U.S. Army Col. Brian Tribus, said the strike ‘may have resulted in collateral damage to a nearby medical facility’ and that the incident was under investigation. Tribus said it was the 12th U.S. airstrike ‘in the Kunduz vicinity since Tuesday.
