Newtown March Planned for ‘Wear Orange’ National Gun Violence Awareness Day, June 2nd

Friday, June 2, 2017 marks the 3rd Annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day. The Brady Campaign Greater Danbury Chapter, Connecticut Against Gun Violence, The Enough Campaign, Greenwich Council Against Gun Violence, Jr. Newtown Action Alliance, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Newtown Action Alliance, and Sandy Hook Promise are uniting again to turn Newtown Orange to #EndGunViolence.

The “Orange Walk” march, where people are asked to wear orange, is to honor all victims and survivors of gun violence on National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

They will begin at Fairfield Hills in Newtown, CT, with marchers meeting there at 5:00 p.m. The protesters will then walk past the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (NSSF) located at 11 Mile Hill Road in Newtown, CT, then the walk continues down Route 25 to Edmund Town Hall where speeches will be made.  Speakers include Actress Melissa Joan Hart, Newtown First Selectwoman Pat Llodra, families directly impacted by gun violence and leaders in the gun violence prevention movement.

The Newtown Action Alliance group states, “From December 14, 2012 to December 14, 2017 (the 5th anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting), over half a million Americans will be killed or injured by guns in America. Newtown is moving forward but Newtown has not moved on. We must continue to shed a light on the tragic epidemic of gun violence in our nation to engage more Americans to make gun violence prevention a priority.”

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sensee in America states, “The color orange demands to be seen. That’s why this June 2nd, we will wear orange for National Gun Violence Awareness Day — the largest national day of action in the fight to end gun violence.
Demand to be seen and demand to see change. Join us and #WearOrange on June 2, and ask your friends and family to do the same!
