Tomorrow is the official Labor Day holiday to honor American workers and their achievements.  There will be a parade in many towns in Connecticut tomorrow, including locally in Newtown, CT, which holds the largest parade in Connecticut where thousands of people gather.  The first Newtown CT parade was on September 3, 1962.

Above photo (click on photo to view larger.): Parade participants carry the large American flag during the Newtown 53rd Annual 2014 Labor Day Parade, on September 1, 2014.  The parade included a moving ceremony of this large historical “National Flag” that was unfurled near the flagpole at the top of Church Hill Road and then hand-carried along the parade route by numerous volunteers. The flag spanned across the road, 45-by-90-feet in size, and weighs 300 pounds, said the 2014 parade committee president, Beth Caldwell.  Marc Valentine of Halifax, Massachusetts, director of The National Flag Truck program, transports the historical flag across the country. This is one of over 20 90-footers, that appears at “Official Affairs of State” and full “Honor” ceremonies, economic summits, and National Re-Dedications. The flag is from the largest collection of giant flags in the world. It is transported aboard the National Flag Truck which was donated by International Truck and Engine and assembled by volunteers at the Springfield, Ohio plant. Newtown CT 2015 Labor Day Parade Starts Tomorrow, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m.

Tomorrow is the official Labor Day holiday to honor American workers and their achievements.  There will be a parade in many towns in Connecticut tomorrow, including locally in Newtown, CT, which holds the largest parade in Connecticut where thousands of people gather.  The first Newtown CT parade was on September 3, 1962.

This year’s Grand Marshal is Ruth Newquist, and Parade Judges are Richard Case, Liz Cooper, Bob Kensek, Bob Llodra, Renia Marini, and Melanie Allen-Mattegat.

The local roads will be closed by the police a 9:30 am and will stay closed until after the parade. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. with the Escort Division led by the Newtown Police. It is recommended that spectators find their seats by 9 am.

Parking

Parking is available at Hawley School, Caraluzzi’s Market, Big Y, and St. Rose School.
Shuttle Bus leaves from St. Rose School.

Per Newtown Police Department, No parking is allowed along the entire Parade Route or Line-Up areas. This will be strictly enforced.

There is no parking on Private or Town Property without written permission. This will be strictly enforced. Your cooperation is much appreciated.

Marchers
All participants should be in their respective position, no later than 9:30 am. Parade shuttle buses will be available to transport marchers from Hawley School to Currituck, the Ambulance garage and Johnny Cake Lane. We encourage you to use the shuttle bus as access to the parade route will be difficult.

Parade starts on Main Street near Edmund Town Hall, down Route 25 past the Newtown Police Station, left on Glover Street, left on Queen Street, right on Church Hill Road, to Hawley Elementary School.
