Multi-Vehicle Accident on I-84 in Newtown, Involving Cement Truck, Causes Massive Traffic Jam During Rush Hour, July 12

Multi-Vehicle Accident on I-84 in Newtown, Involving Cement Truck, Causes Massive Traffic Jam During Rush Hour, July 12

A multi-vehicle accident occurred this morning a few minutes before 8:00 a.m. at the height of rush hour on I-84 in Newtown, CT, between Exits 10 and 11, involving a cement truck and other vehicles.

The accident closed two lanes on the westbound direction and caused a massive traffic jam. Traffic spilled onto the side roads in Newtown and Sandy Hook as drivers tried to find alternate routes.

According to CT State Trooper Mark Barrone there were minor injuries and an ambulance was there to do evaluations but he does not believe anyone was taken to the hospital. Although there were only minor injuries, the people involved still would have had to get in touch with a law firm like Noll Law to help get justice and assistance for the damage done at the scene. The accident included a box truck, a cement truck and a car, he said.

Traffic was backed up to Southbury, CT, and traffic near Route 34 was heavy.

At times Bethel Advocate observed that traffic was at a standstill and lines of tractor trailers could be seen for miles crawling along on the highway (see photos below).
