NO CELL TOWERS IN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS



When we first considered our present location on Codfish Hill Road, we knew we didn’t want to move near high power lines.  Their ugliness and dangers were something we didn’t want to find out about the hard way, no matter how nice the house was, and we would have felt the same way back then about cell towers.  Now, it seems that we might have a cell tower placed right in our back yard.  And why is that allowed?

If they were socially responsible, why would North Atlantic and AT&T place a cell tower—an unusually high one, perhaps 175 feet—in a residential neighborhood?  Having already been turned down by two other local landowners, they obviously knew it wasn’t welcome, but they finally found someone who would take their bait.  It is very sad when we allow large-scale corporations to become more powerful than the voice of the people. Why are they given the right to do this, and why is the absentee landlord, when her actions might affect a whole town?  The simple answer is, because they can.  Where are the laws?

I am writing this letter to make all aware that if we as citizens don’t start speaking up against such actions, our homes and neighborhoods are at risk.  How many of you would buy a home near a cell tower?  Not many, I bet.  This one would also be extremely close to the Bethel public schools and St. Mary’s school.  Do we really know that these towers are safe for our children to be near for long periods of time?  The answer is, we don’t.  Why then are we taking chances?  Please join our community at the public hearing on June 2 at 7 PM at the Bethel Municipal Center to stand up for our rights and our safety.  You can also read more about this at our website:  http://nocodfishtower.com
