I’m voting for Will Duff in the Sept. 16 Bethel Primary for First Selectman, and here’s why:
This vote is for a change of direction and to get the candidate I feel can best differentiate himself from the incumbent.
Will Duff opposed the Aquarion water sale, his opponent supports selling off Bethel’s water system. Will Duff voted against big increases in spending, helped expose the town’s involvement in the Walnut Hill bridge debacle, putting his own money up as a reward to find and convict the bridge graffiti vandal.
Insane over-development of residential units may improve the grand list, but the glut of new housing depresses the market value of existing stock. Failure to plan for and solicit commercial ventures has left Bethel with empty storefronts. After 23 years, the ROI on my home, with capital improvements is essentially ZERO. I had hoped for more after 23 years.
Where was his opponent when towns around the state enacted a moratorium on cannabis dispensaries soon after the law was passed? (Hint: chairing P&Z, the after-the-fact moratorium enacted long after the dispensary opened shop.)
Will Duff has a proven record of overcoming adversity, has been a selectman and a valuable voice on the Board of Education. We all want a better Bethel, and Will Duff deserves the chance to face the incumbent in November.
