Redding Fire & EMS Company #1 is celebrating 100 years of service this year! Please visit their birthday/anniversary website to become an active part of this year-long party, by sharing your stories with them, joining them for events throughout the year, and getting to know their history.

Redding Fire District #1
The Redding Volunteer Fire & EMS Company #1 was founded in 1915 to provide coordinated fire protection and ambulance service to the residents of the town of Redding. Our primary service covers the area of Redding, East to the Easton border on North Park Avenue, South to the Saugatuck Reservoir and to the Easton border on Pine Tree and Rock House Roads, North to the Bethel border and West to a line paralleling and dividing Stagecoach Road. We work very closely with our sister companies in West Redding and Georgetown to provide maximum protection to the town. We also have mutual aid agreements with the surrounding towns of Easton, Newtown and Bethel and are connected to a statewide “rapid reaction” resource pool should the need arise.
A Regional Paramedic Intercept Service, provided by Danbury Hospital to ensure rapid, quality EMS care, supports our EMS. We continue to work in conjunction with West Redding, with a paid EMS staff to cover daytime medical emergencies. Crews made up of members from both departments are “on station” from 7:30AM to 3:30PM at either the West Redding Firehouse or the Firehouse on Black Rock Turnpike. This has dramatically reduced ambulance response times during daytime hours when many of our volunteers are at work.
In the past year, we responded to 175 EMS and 108 fire calls ranging from structure and brush fires to motor vehicle accidents and medical emergencies. We are proud to have the skills and training to support any kind of emergency activity and can help direct additional resources to an incident if necessary. All of our members are involved in training or re-certification courses throughout the year. A monthly business meeting is held on the 1st Monday of every month at the firehouse on Black Rock Turnpike. Other Mondays feature training topics and practical skill drills for Firefighters and EMS personnel. Anyone interested in observing our training exercises is welcome to visit us on Mondays. Observing us “first hand” will permit the citizens to become more familiar with our operation.
Redding Fire & EMS Company #1 is always looking for conscientious individuals interested in volunteering and “giving something back to our community”. Our members come from all walks of life and careers. No matter how much or how little time you have, we welcome you to join our ranks. There are many company tasks and functions, which do not require formal firefighting or medical training. For the more adventurous, the sky is literally the limit and the district pays for the tuition for courses. People say that volunteerism is on the wane in America. Let’s not have that happen in Redding – we are different so come and join one of the town’s three departments. If you are interested, drop in on our monthly meeting, any drill night or call 938-2520 and leave a message.
We appreciate all of the support we have received from the community this past year. Contributions made to the fire department help to defray the costs of additional supplies and equipment, which were not able to make the fiscal year budget. Our prime objective is to make sure that we can provide for the safety of the community while maintaining high standards of safety for our members.
