As summer draws to a close and back-to-school shopping starts, I wanted to remind you that “Tax Free Week” is coming up, beginning Sunday, August 21 and ending Saturday, August 27.  This one-week event eliminates Connecticut’s 6.35 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear costing less than $100.

As summer draws to a close and back-to-school shopping starts, I wanted to remind you that “Tax Free Week” is coming up, beginning Sunday, August 21 and ending Saturday, August 27.

 

This one-week event eliminates Connecticut’s 6.35 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear costing less than $100. Please note: This benefit has been substantially reduced from previous years.

 

Since sales tax is calculated after the use of any coupons or discounts, if the final price is less than $100, the sale is exempt from taxes. Clothing or footwear under $100 put on layaway is also tax-free.

 

Additionally, new and used college textbooks are exempt from the state 6.35% sales tax for students who present a valid college ID at the time of purchase.

 

Tax Free Week was first enacted in 2000, and applies to most clothing and footwear purchases intended for everyday use.

 

Goods not covered under the program include, but are not limited to:

•  Clothing or footwear specifically designed for athletic activities: football cleats, specialty boots for fishing, hiking, skiing and other activities, as well as wet suits, helmets and headbands, etc.

•  Accessories: jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, etc.

 

Feel free to consult with your local retailers or contact the Department of Revenue Services for a full list of qualifying and non-qualifying items.

  21. When they run into the subway and you see the monster for the first time, it has different teeth to the one that bites Hud in half. Also you can apparently see two monsters on the Brooklyn Bridge scene in which Jason bites the dust. The ‘Two Monster’ theory is an interesting one, but certainly not an unlikely one. I sure hope that ‘Super 8′ is actually a ‘Cloverfield’ sequel, but even if it’s not, I’ll still see it all the same.

Also, I hiked with it and may possibly not see much of no matter what business and the images were blurred. It was hard to tell the distance of equipment like trees and branches. It made the hike unenjoyable. Plus, I bought it for nocturnal wildlife viewing, but it lights up at night, making it impossible to hide from wildlife in the dark.
