Fleeing Driver Leads to Bethel Police Search Near Rt. 53 Crash Then Foot Chase; Danbury Police, CT State Police & K-9 Join Search for Suspect

On the morning of February 28th at approximately 5:00 AM, Bethel Police located a vehicle traveling on Chestnut St with a loud exhaust. The vehicle accelerated away from the police cruiser but was soon located in the area of Taylor Ave and South St where a traffic stop was initiated after the vehicle was seen driving on the wrong side of the road.

As the involved officer approached the now stopped vehicle, it quickly accelerated and fled the stop. The officer was able to determine the path of travel of the fleeing vehicle and located it on Route 53 near the Danbury town line. The vehicle had crashed prior to being relocated and the driver and passenger had fled on foot.

Another responding officer then unsuccessfully attempted to apprehend the fleeing parties in the Timber Oaks community.

Assistance was provided by Danbury Police and Connecticut State Police including a K-9 in attempting to contain and locate the involved persons.

After continued investigation, the fleeing driver was identified and subsequently located in a nearby residence where he was taken into custody.

The driver was determined to be a juvenile who was also subject to an active take into custody order related to a previous incident and was transported to a holding facility pursuant to that order.

There were no known injuries associated with the crash.
