Twenty-two years running, the monthly Fiddlers’ Brawl returns to its long-time winter quarters at the Redding Roadhouse this Thursday, January 7, 2016, 7:30 to 10:30 pm. The event is now in its 22nd year.

Fiddlers’ Brawl Returns to Redding Road House Jan. 7

Twenty-two years running, the monthly Fiddlers’ Brawl returns to its long-time winter quarters at the Redding Roadhouse this Thursday, January 7, 2016, 7:30 to 10:30 pm. The event is now in its 22nd year.

“We are so happy to be back here for the winter! Since the Brawl is a barn dance, fiddle fest, and hootenanny, this historic rustic tavern is the perfect winter setting!” says guitarist Billy Michael who, along with a highly talented group of string musicians, creates a joyful noise each month for a smiling, toe-tapping, knee-slapping, appreciative audience of long-time followers.

Michael, who has performed at the Roadhouse for decades on his own and with other musical incarnations, has co-hosted the Brawl for 22 years with Bethel-based master fiddler Howie Bujese. Having studied under Jay Ungar and played with the best, Bujese always wows the Brawl crowd with many traditional favorites including Jay Ungar’s heart-plucking “Ashokan Farewell,” a Brawl tradition and mainstay.

As one fan put it “the Fiddler’s Brawl is Americana music at its best and should be featured in a documentary about musicians keeping Americana music alive in this country! Hello PBS? BBC?”

22 years and counting, the Fiddler’s Brawl is held the FIRST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH from 7:30 to 10:30 pm so mark your calendars. It will be held at the Redding Roadhouse January through April 2016 before it returns to its summer home in Bethel at the Putnam House.
