A juvenile has been arrested in connection with making social media threats directed to the Bethel High School last Wednesday.

This caused the lock out of all district schools as a precaution, for a portion of the morning at 11:30 a.m. while school was in session, and the lock out lasted about 15 minutes. This means while police were notified and an investigation continued, no one was allowed to enter or leave the buidings, but activities inside proceeded as normal.
Parents received notification of the situation via Bethel Superintendent of Schools Dr. Christine Carver’s office by automatic calls and emails, and later also received updates by this same method.
Police eventually discovered that the threat was from a juvenile who was not in the school. According to Bethel Police Capt. David Bruckenthal, two threats were made, one towards a student and one general threat, but exact charges have not been released.
Wednesday’s incident took place just a day after Newtown High School received a threat via Facebook last Tuesday right before dismissal. The lock in lasted 45 minutes. There were no arrests on the incident so far. The temporary Sandy Hook School in Monroe also received a bomb threat a month ago.
