Bethel Fire Fighters ‘Stephen’s Squad of Bethel’ Participated in the Tunnel to Towers 5K Race for the Stephen Siller 9/11 Foundation

This past June Bethel held the first Tunnel to Towers 5K Race for the Stephen Siller 9/11 foundation.

On Sunday, September 30, 2018, some members of the Bethel Fire & EMS and Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Departments and other volunteers, which formed “Stephen’s Squad of Bethel,” had 11 in attendance and 8 people from their squad participating in New York’s race, amongst the nearly 30,000 in the NYC run/walk.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. The foundation also honors our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.

The foundation raises money to build smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans so they can live an easier life with their families. They also pay off mortgages for first responders who have been lost in the line of duty. They contribute to relief efforts after major natural disasters as well. They basically are there to help out and “do good” as Stephen said, whenever possible.

“Stephen’s Squad of Bethel” the Bethel division, will be planning to meet and begin preparing for their second run which will be held this coming June. This race will be held here in Bethel yearly.

They are happy to have new members on their squad helping out and contributing ideas and making this event happen.

If anyone is interested in joining the group, they can contact run directors Scott Murphy at (203) 947-1569 and Brittany Murphy at (347)759-1242. They can also both be contacted through Facebook.
